PARENTS & KIDS TOGETHER

Here's how Parents and Kids can have fun and spend time together...

The mission of the Swampscott Youth Soccer Association is to promote organized athletic development and competition, to provide wholesome

recreational athletics and sport activities under supervision, and to improve the health fitness and mental condition of our youth by the coordination of a

program of soccer play and instruction. The SYSA also provides playing opportunities for novice as well as experienced players integrated through

house and travel league teams to foster the development of soccer players who value friendship, competition, and sportsmanship in their play.

In addition, SYSA is committed to providing low-cost fees for participation.

As a Parent, You Know How It Is...

At day's end, you wonder what you've really accomplished.

You wonder if you've really spent the kind of time with your children that matters-- time listening to them, time teaching them about cooperation, time building their

self-esteem.

As a Child...

You know how it is, too. You want more time with Mom and Dad. But you also want time with friends, kicking a ball around, and having a little friendly competition. Also being part of a team without the stress of "making it" or worrying if you're good enough.

The Solution...

As much as we'd all like it, there's no magic wand that'll give us more time-- or make us athletic superstars.

So what can parents and kids do?

You can participate in the Swampscott Youth Soccer Association (SYSA)

For Parents, Soccer Is...

Time With Your Child/Children - Cheering on your child as she/he dribbles the ball down the field is just the beginning. There's more.
In the SYSA, you're in the action. You're with your kids, coaching or refereeing.

Time For Your Children - If you don't want to coach or referee, there are still other things you can do. Serve on the board of directors, paint fields, assemble equipment, register new players, or stuff envelopes. You're spending time for your kids, by sharing your talents with your SYSA.

Inexpensive - You don't need a lot of equipment to play soccer. Just some shoes, shinguards, and a soccer ball. Your low bi-yearly registration fee covers the rest--

team shirt, plus weeks of soccer instruction and competition.

Self-Esteem Building - As a volunteer in a recreational soccer association, you'll soon find that the SYSA is committed to children. That's why the SYSA mandates

that all children placed on non-travel teams play at least half of each game. That's why there are no first and second strings. That's why there are no game statistics kept.

That's why the SYSA --through the board of directors, coaches, referees, parents--

emphasizes having fun.  It's all a part of building the kids' self-esteem.

For Kids, Soccer Is...

For You...For Everyone - Soccer players are girls and boys who come in all shapes and sizes and have different abilities. Everybody can enjoy soccer.

Fun - The clock rarely stops during a soccer game. It can last 30 minutes (two halves) for young kids to an hour and a half (two 45-minute halves) for travel team play. You're always moving - running, dribbling, passing, shooting, defending or scoring.

You are important to the team - With SYSA soccer, you don't have to be a super athlete to be needed. You don't even have to "try out." Just by signing up, you're on a team. And, the best part is-- you play in all games. That's right. There's no bench warmers here. The SYSA has a rule that says everybody has to play at least half of every game.

A High-Quality Program - As a member of the US Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) and the Massachusetts State Youth Soccer Association, your SYSA promotes clinics for referees and coaches and offers boys' and girls' outside development programs. All of this is provided by volunteers like you.
